Who It's For: Bordeaux collectors, advanced students, and anyone who has ever looked at a first growth price tag and wondered if there is a smarter way in.
Every classified estate in Bordeaux makes a grand vin. Most also make a second wine, built from younger vines, declassified lots, or parcels that did not make the final blend. They are not afterthoughts. For many houses, the second label is where the estate's identity shows through most clearly at a price that does not require a special occasion.
This class works through second wines from across the Médoc, Graves, and the Right Bank. We look at how each house approaches their second label, what gets selected out of the grand vin and why, and how these wines age compared to their more famous siblings.
By the end, you should have a clear sense of which second wines are genuinely worth seeking out and which are trading on the name above the door.
