Perfect for advanced students, history-minded tasters, and anyone interested in wine as a long, continuous dialogue between past and present.
This advanced class explores wine through some of its oldest and most enduring cultures, including Georgia, Lebanon, Armenia, and other regions where winemaking traditions stretch back thousands of years and remain deeply connected to place. Rather than treating these wines as historical artifacts, we’ll approach them as living systems shaped by continuity, adaptation, and identity. Through comparative tasting, we’ll examine techniques such as clay vessel fermentation, extended skin contact, and low-intervention approaches, and how they influence structure, texture, and longevity. We’ll also consider how these regions balance ancient practices with modern expectations, offering a deeper perspective on wine as both heritage and evolution.
