Drinking Through Spain Series: Mediterranean Coast

  • The Oenophile Institute 1295 W Spring St Smyrna, GA, 30080 United States (map)

Drinking Through Spain is our ongoing series on the wine regions, culture, and cuisine of one of the most layered countries in the wine world. Each class focuses on a different corner of the map, pairs the grapes and styles worth knowing with the history and culture that shaped them, and gives you the context to shop, order, and travel with confidence. All of the depth, none of the textbook.

This class works through the Mediterranean side of Spain in a single evening. Priorat and its benchmark reds from the Llicorella slopes. Penedès, where a new generation is reshaping what the region can do beyond its sparkling identity. Cava across its tiers, from entry-level pours up through the long-aged, single-estate bottlings that belong in any serious sparkling conversation. Valencia, home to grapes most Americans have never met and prices that still make sense. And Murcia, where Jumilla and Yecla are producing some of the most compelling warm-climate reds in Europe. We taste across the coast and give you a working map of the region.
