The Other Coast: Georgia

  • The Oenophile Institute 1295 W Spring St Smyrna, GA, 30080 United States (map)

The Other Coast is our series on the wine regions of the American East. Each class focuses on a single state or region, covers the grapes and styles worth knowing, and unpacks why the eastern half of the country is one of the most underrated stories in American wine.

No background required. Come curious.

Georgia is home to a growing wine industry, and North Georgia is where most of the story is being written. The Dahlonega Plateau, formally recognized as its own AVA, is producing wines with real ambition, and a wave of growers across the region is proving that the state can do far more than most drinkers have given it credit for.

We taste across North Georgia and cover what makes the region worth paying attention to right now. Which grapes are working. Which producers are pushing the category forward. What the climate and elevation actually mean for the wines in the glass. Along the way we unpack how quickly the industry has evolved and where it looks like things are heading next.
