Sommlympics | The Ultimate Wine Competiton

Sommlympics is a prestigious, high-stakes competition designed to celebrate the art of wine and the mastery of sommeliers, while also being open to passionate wine aficionados. This unique event brings together teams of three industry professionals and wine aficionados, who will compete in a series of rigorous challenges encompassing wine theory, service, and the nerve-wracking blind tasting.

Spectators can watch the competition unfold, enjoy tastings of fine wines, and learn from the challenges presented. Competition Structure:

Service Skills (The Perfect Pour):

One member from each team is put to the test in a real-world setting, where they must demonstrate impeccable service skills. They'll be judged on and awarded points for speed, sound, accuracy of pouring, and service of sparkling wine. Bonus points for grace under pressure.

Theoretical Knowledge (The Grapevine Challenge):

One member from each team faces a grueling test of their wine knowledge, including regions, varietals, viticulture, and winemaking techniques. Points are awarded for accuracy in a Jeopardy style face off.

Blind Tasting Challenge (The Palate Puzzle):

The most thrilling part of the competition, one member from each team is given a series of unidentified wines. Points are awarded for identification the grape varietal, appellation, vintage, quality level, and ability to age.

Scoring and Prizes:

Scoring criteria will be given to the teams upon registration. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be awarded for each individual event during medal ceremony at the end of the competition.

  • Individual Event Prizes

    THEORY EVENT

    • 1st place: 1 night at the Epicurean Atlanta hotel with a bottle of wine from Dom Beijos

    • 2nd place: A tasting for up to 5 people at Dom Beijos

    SERVICE EVENT

    • 1st place: 1 night at the Epicurean Atlanta hotel with a bottle of wine from Brookhaven Wines

    • 2nd place: $50 gift certificate to Brookhaven Wines

    TASTING EVENT

    • 1st place: 1 night at the Epicurean Atlanta hotel with a bottle of wine from Wine Shoe

    • 2nd place: $50 gift certificate to Wine Shoe

    Points are awarded for each event, and the team with the highest total score at the end of the competition is crowned the Sommlympics champion.

  • All- Around Team Grand Prize

    • 3 hotel rooms for the team to spend a night in Tampa at the Epicurean Hotel

    • $1000 to spend on a team dinner at Bern’s Steak House 

    • A kick ass trophy

    • Bragging rights

    *travel will not be covered and some black out dates apply.
